Detours
I accompanied my daughter to our Grandson's first few pediatrician appointments. Each time, the 20 minute Siri led expedition led us to the front parking lot of the medical building. We parked and wrangled up the numerous things that you travel with when traveling with a newborn. We trekked the long way across the hot parking lot into the main entrance of the building; across the large foyer to the elevators that would take us down to the bottom floor where we would soon enter the pediatricians office. By the third visit we thought we had this figured out. However, to our surprise while we were driving down the main road looking to make the turn into the parking lot - as we had done before - we noticed detour signs preventing us from doing so. Our immediate thoughts were “Great, we’re going to be late!” - “How do we even know how to get into this building, if not from the front entrance!?” We followed the detour signs which brought us to a different area of the medical complex way behind the building. We were sure we were going to get lost and be late for the appointment. As we began looking for available parking spots we noticed an entry door with the pediatric group’s name and logo on it. We entered the building and realized that this detour actually brought us to the lower level of the building to a door that was literally steps from where the doctors office entrance was. My daughter and I had a quick giggle and it got me to thinking that life is often this way...
We view detours as inconveniences that take us out of our way and waste our time…..but, what if God was using detours to redirect us and actually move us to a better place.
